Let’s Talk: Puzzle And Dragons!
Hey everyone! I’ve been playing Puzzle and Dragons for some time now, and I really haven’t had time to talk to anyone about this really. Why not talk about it now? Let’s talk about today’s episode: Puzzle and Dragons!
What Is It?
What even is Puzzle and Dragons? In simple terms, it’s a puzzle game with dragons. Yeah, it’s not that far off from its title. It’s just about matching three in a row of the same color, similar to candy crush. The thing that makes it distinct from similar games include the customizable music, the characters to choose from and the free moving colored orbs. The game is a gacha game which is a huge minus to those who dislike them, and that’s understandable. The game is generous in giving players a lot of free currency to use the gacha but if the currency is saved, there would be a life supply of gacha pulls. Gacha aside, the gameplay is very simple and often calm. I use it to distress, and the artwork makes it worth it. So many talented artists make the artwork pleasing to play as the amount of monsters you collect make your little monster box expand more and more overtime.
Puzzle and Dragons Personal Story
I started playing Puzzle and Dragons a couple years ago, but I wouldn’t say I did it for fun but rather out of boredom. I believe I started back in 2017, back when the Justice League collaboration came by. That’s actually one of the reasons I kept playing, the random collaborations make the game worth playing. Similar to how Fortnite collaborates often with other IPs or even musical artists, Puzzle and Dragons collaborates more with anime and even android. If the collaborations weren’t present, I probably would have dropped this game a long time ago. Who doesn’t want to play a game where they can make a team with Mickey Mouse and his friends, alongside Hatsune Miku, the Droid from Android, Joker from Persona 5, and Zenitsu from Demon Slayer? I would say this was my addiction in high school aside from the High School Musical franchise.
Is It Worth Playing At This Time?
As of the writing of this blog, I would say yes and no. You see, the biggest collaboration and “power creep” of recent times of this game is the Digimon collaboration. Omnimon teams are currently the meta alongside other monsters from the Dengeki Bunko collaboration, and those since long passed. I personally don’t believe they’re coming back anytime soon, meaning if you missed out on such an important team I would feel demotivated to play. With that being said, the collaboration going on right now, Disney, offers much value if you haven’t played yet. The Valentine’s event is also happening despite it being way past the day of Valentine. These also include powerful monsters to play with if you want to begin. Depending if you want to play competitively or casually, I would say give it a shot. Many collaborations happen just the one time and you’d miss out on collecting some fun ones such as the Power Rangers characters or the My Hero Academia crossover. With that being said, don’t be too mad if you fail to getpassed a certain level because I do too. I’m more of a casual player who loves to collect their favorite characters for fun.
Beginners Tips
I would say the biggest thing I would recommend new players to do when playing this game would be to save Magic Stones. Although it seems like you’ve collected many of them, you can quickly decide to use them on one machine for a specific monster. The more you collect can impact how many times you can roll. It is a gacha game, which can understandably push players away from playing this game but you can collect the currency pretty easily in this game, especially if you’re new.
Getting into the current meta and game breaking teams could be a hindrance but I would recommend viewing Puzzle and Dragons YouTubers such as Mantastic PAD or guamuchill as they constantly discuss the current “highlights” of each machine and, in fact, help guide players to build a respectable team to tackle in game dungeons.
Quick comment though, they do use advance game lingo which might be pretty difficult to understand. As you listen/watch, I’d advise you to look at your team while they discuss topics or anything really. It’ll help you visualize what they say as you form a team or look at the gacha chances and decide to roll on it or to resist pulling the machine.
Final Thoughts
I love playing Puzzle and Dragons in my free time because it distresses me with my recent life updates such as long and tiring shifts from work and boredom on the bus ride home. Making teams on the game is difficult but once you get the hang of mix matching team comps it’s certainly fun! I don’t care if I lose going into a strong dungeon, all I care is that I beat it with some of my favorite characters. Taking down a powerful dragon as Daisy Duck never fails to make me laugh.
