Let’s Talk Fortnite: So… Chapter 6 Season 1…

It’s been more than a year since I started playing Fortnite, but this might be one of my least favorite seasons gameplay wise. Let’s talk about it.

Okay, I feel like I need to rant about this nearly done season of Fortnite because it’s literally so annoying to go up against the sword spammers unless YOU become one. I say this because I have not won a single game without carrying some sort of sword throughout my game.

I really haven’t been able to play as much as I thought I would this season and honestly I don’t think I’ve missed much. The countless spammers, the ridiculous rng when it comes to chest drops and the not so good shotguns made this season pretty stressful. Did I have fun sometimes? Yes, but that’s only because I was the only one to carry around a sword in the endgame. Otherwise I would be fried by the countless amounts of explosive rifles or swords. This caused me to shift over to Fortnite OG for a hot minute and I ended up enjoying my time there. When comparing the two seasons, thematically I love Chapter 6 but when the loot pool is balanced in the game such as OG was, it makes me wish we had better weapons in this season.

The addition of the Godzilla boss was fun for a few days but when you’re playing fills, it’s very rare you won’t be fighting Godzilla which is great. Otherwise, you’re stuck with a team that constantly pushes an enemy team and the squad ends up losing, heading back to lobby. The mythic dropped by them were fun though, as the medallion gave you the underworld water effect from Chapter 5 Season 2, and the weapon dropped would be a Quad Missile Launcher. Although the missile launcher wasn’t the best, it could definitely be used to destroy building and explode cars when the enemy team is running or hiding away.

I didn’t play during the Winterfest times, but I did log into my phone to pick up some holiday gifts from the Item Shop and to redeem my daily presents. I heard that there was a mini Mariah Carey event on the map and that’s pretty much it. The addition to the ice skates were a fun mobility and the snowmen were fun to chuck around. It’s pretty funny thinking back at it now, we have Eminem and Mariah in the same game. Then again, we have Billy the Puppet in the same game as Hatsune Miku, now wearing a skibidi toilet backbling.

The festival this season was rumored to be NewJeans but ended up being Hatsune Miku which I’m not entirely upset about since it was Miku. But I was still upset that NewJeans never ended up being added this season. Understandably so, and putting my feelings aside, the festival stage for this season is so cool. It’s probably my second favorite stage next to the Karol G season with the flower theming. I don’t think we ever got a Hatsune Miku concert announced for this season as well so it’s probably fair to say Hatsune Miku was chucked in as a last minute festival pass to replace NewJeans and their current drama surrounding them.

I won’t lie, I was happy with the battle pass this season since it introduced us to both Kendo and Daigo, brothers of Jade who seem to have a deeper story connected to the lore. Daigo is a basic outfit, but when used in combination with his super level styles, he sticks out in an amazing design perspective. Same goes for Kendo, I often use this one whenever I decide I’m not using Ariana Grande or the Coachella Wilder for the night. Everything else in the pass is fine. I’m not a fan of them but it’s worth it when we have two amazing skins that I use often. What do you think?

Finally, the other outfits we got this season include the Kaiju No. 8 outfits and more Jujutsu Kaisen ones. Reno is one I use more than I’d like to admit because I simply love his character in the anime. I don’t see many people use the Kaiju outfits but when I do, it makes me happy knowing more people bought them as the anime is a pretty fun watch. As for Jujutsu Kaisen, I haven’t watched much but I understand enough lore to understand what happens. Toji is probably my favorite outfit of the three. (The three being Sukuna, Toji and Mahito) These outfits go very well with the Japanese theming they have going on with the Fortnite season and I only hope we go up from here. I forgot to mention, yeah we have skibidi toilet in the game now but I’d rather not think of this when writing my opinion on the season.

The emotes this season were probably undoubtedly my favorite. We got Magnetic by Illit, Tokyo Calling by Atarashii Gakko! and From The Start by Laufey. I could only hope we get more Kpop or Jpop emotes in the future and possibly even a Kpop outfit. I would love to be able to snipe people as Kim Jisoo from Blackpink!

Anyways, that’s about it on how I’ve felt about the season. Like I’ve said before the thematics of the season were a great choice but the end result was not as great for the season gameplay wise. It doesn’t help that we can’t ignore it from a gameplay perspective because, well, that’s what its intended purpose was. To appeal to us the audience and get us to play the game more often. I’ll be honest, I was very happy the first week of release but I got so tired over the same repetitive “strategy” from sword spammers so quickly, I gave up playing near the end of the season just because of the stuff I had to deal with in the endgame. I won’t lie, I’m a sword spammer very much at times so I completely understand the view this may give as a hypocrite, but it’s the truth. The season was not fun thanks to them. If anything, I’d take the cars from the Nitro Season last chapter than this sword spamming of a season.

My end verdict is a 4/10 the emotes, item shop and battle pass saved the season. Otherwise it would have been way lower. It’s not as bad as the Marvel Season in my opinion as I absolutely hated that season. The same concept of having some sort of overpowered weapon or mechanic still remains but at least anyone could find a sword eventually, unlike the annoyance that was the jetpack and the auto turret. The halloween overlay really saved it by adding fun poi’s and a shake up to the gameplay with additions such as the pumpkin launcher, Billy’s Bombs, chainsaws and the brooms but in the end it did really boil down to,“who has better jetpacks”.

Here’s to more years of Fortnite, and that one day we have a Kpop idol in the game I can one day main aside from Ariana Grande and Wilder! As much as I love using these outfits, it gets pretty repetitive at times.
