Sabrina Carpenter Short n’ Sweet Deluxe First Impressions!
Hey guys! DJ Harrito back again, and this time, we’ll be reacting live as I write this review about Sabrina Carpenter’s newly released deluxe album: Short n’ Sweet Deluxe! I’m not a carpenter, BUT I do enjoy listening to her songs from time to time, so without further ado, let’s get into it!
One thing I’d like to note is that I’ll be reviewing her new songs from this album, not the ones from the original! Short n’ Sweet album is a bop regardless, and if you REALLY want my opinion on it, I loved it. Although not every track was on repeat for me, I still enjoyed listening to most of it without question! My favorite track might be “Good Graces” or “Espresso”, as both are my kind of vibe when I feel happy or I need a boost of energy.
Alright, first up we have:
“15-Minutes”
It’s a fun song with an upbeat tempo–I really enjoy it! It seems like something I’d put on when I’m feeling some Dua Lipa or Ariana for the day. I definitely understood the vibe she was going for, and I had to listen to it twice because, at first, I was overwhelmed, but now listening to it again, I definitely like this track. Nothing much else I’d want to say really, but I definitely will add this song to my favorites!
“Please Please Please” (featuring Dolly Parton)
I’m not going to lie, I was sort of spoiled on TikTok when I heard a snippet of this track. I understand the mixed reactions, but if I’m being honest… I enjoyed this??? Dolly brings a fun twist to the song. I definitely enjoy the southern twang mix, which surprised me quite a bit because I don’t like country music, but is this really nice. The reaction I keep seeing online reminds me of the one meme from the hyperpigmentation video, “No-No it’s nice!” Honestly, I’m a fan of it, unlike the Ariana and Mariah Carey “Yes, and?” collaboration last year. Their vocals aren’t the same, but it works here for me. Now that’s just my opinion, but I understand the dislike towards it. Either way, this is definitely getting added to my likes as well. Nice tracks so far!
“Couldn’t Make It Any Harder”
This song gives me Olivia Rodrigo kinda vibes–if that makes sense. The raw emotion in Sabrina’s voice just hits different. It is filled with sadness, and I can see myself listening to this whenever I’m in that kind of mood. With that being said, I can’t get myself to listen to this more than once because it definitely makes me feel kind of emotional. Amazing job, Sabrina, because I understand what she means in her song. She’s gone through relationships that can cause pain, and I feel the same way regarding the pain a friendship can cause as well. I’ve met plenty of people who are simply using me for their benefit, so this song really hits it right on the nail when it comes to reflecting my bottled-up emotions.
“Busy Woman”
First off, I have to say–this song reminds me of “Girls Just To Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. The beat sounds similar, and it’s funny how that song is playing on the “girls just wanna have fun” narrative, but in a relationship way. I don’t know if it was intentionally done, but if not, that’s a funny coincidence! Going back to this song, I love how it’s straightforward as to what Sabrina wants from her relationships. Just being direct to say “hey, I’m here always for you, but if you’re going to be a jerk then don’t even bother me”. Straight to the point–I love it. This track is also getting added to my favorites too.
“Bad Reviews”
Again, similar to “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder”, this is another emotional track. It makes me upset how Sabrina feels about her relationship with her ex. After what happened to Sabrina and Barry Keoghan, I can completely understand where she comes from. It sucks so bad thinking you can finally trust someone and then you get completely blindsided by them. As the song states, “bad reviews” were suggested from people she knows or saw articles about her ex, but she chose to ignore them and go into this relationship with open arms. Sadly, it didn’t end well for her and it resulted with this track being released. Similar to the other track I mentioned earlier, I cannot see myself adding this to my favorites because of how emotional it is for me personally. But I’ll definitely add it to my sad mix alongside Olivia Rodrigo’s emotional hits.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I liked the additional 5 tracks. It evoked emotional responses from me, in a positive way. I’m not surprised that a Grammy winning artist could cause such a reaction from me. Props to her as I was always lurking on her musical talent since the Disney Channel days with her solo,“Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying”. I can’t wait for her to release more music, and hopefully one day both Olivia and Sabrina can collaborate on a song. I can promise you, it wouldn’t flop and would cause both fandoms to absolutely fall for each other.
