Cancled T.V. Shows that Shouldn't Have Been

By Aerrow Shaperio

I have been looking back at the shows I like (past and present), and I noticed that some of them (if not most of them) got cancelled as soon as they start to go great.  Also, upon research on various shows, I noticed that some good ones I have yet to see, in whole, have got their plugged pulled at their prime. Some got resurrected in some way, such as “Futurama” getting new episodes on Comedy Central, “Firefly” getting their own movie, and “Farscape” having their “series finale” cliffhanger resolved through a mini-series, just to name a few.

However, some were not that lucky. So, here’s my list of shows that got cancelled but deserve another chance (in no particular order, whatsoever).  Also, in fairness, “Naruto” will not be included for a couple of reasons: all episodes (including those unaired in the US) are already available on DVD and in digital formats in uncut form (dubbed and/or subbed), and also, Disney XD is already airing its follow-up series “Naruto Shippuden.”

Note: This list reflects the opinion of the author, and not primarily that of the public opinion, as other people’s opinions may differ.

“Storm Hawks”
Mention of the show is possibly a no-brainer.  With the second season left unaired in the US and mention of this show dropped from the new Cartoon Network website, it was devastating to me as a fan of that show. While the show has some (if not many) flaws, it was a fun action show with a promising story arc focusing on the battle between the forces of good and evil, especially with the story arc lasting throughout the two seasons (so far).

“Moonlight”
I felt like adding this because it takes a reinvention of vampires to a new level.  Such potential can be pointed out with the mix of crime-fighting action, supernatural edge, and some dramatic romance.  While it’s about two years and counting since the last episode aired, anything can still be possible; such material could be worthy of being in other forms of media, like comic books or movies, for instance.

“Teen Titans”
Four years after its cancellation, I wanted to add this for various reasons. The show has some great story lines. It also has some interesting characters (heroes and villains alike), ranging from the bold and daring Robin to the dark and mysterious Raven. And with characters introduced in the fifth and final season, it would be nice to see more of them, such as the cat-masked villainess Cheshire, the samurai hero Bushido, and the punky-looking heroine Argent. Also, there are more plot lines that would be worth seeing in action, such as who Red X is after Robin stopped assuming that identity and the relationship between Cheshire and Speedy (the latter as a nod to the relationship as shown in the comics).

“Smush”
Short-lived in 2001, this game show aired in USA Network, and it is from Jellyvision, the company that made “You Don’t Know Jack.”  Hosted by the late Ken Ober (of MTV’s “Remote Control” fame) and co-hosted by Lisa Dergan, the concept of this game show is interesting from gameplay to setting.  The game involves combining phrases like contractions, and it takes place in a house party. With those things in mind, this game show would be worthy of reviving.

This list could go on, but I decide to stop here, for now. Maybe on another installment of this list, I could list more. For now though, courage.
